German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation.

We recently rescued Galway and his 7 siblings from a SD reservation. Reservation dogs lead a very hard life, with no shelter, little food, and no vet care. Many of them die on the reservation due to accidents, deprivation, and/or sickness, among other causes. Fortunately for Galway, he is one of the lucky ones, as he got out safely, and he will now get to experience life as a beloved family pet.

Galway is an absolutely adorable 2.5 month-old pup who is outgoing, affectionate, and an enthusiastic player with other dogs! He is a lovable pup with a big personality, who is very vocal and tons of fun. He enjoys being king of the castle and hogs toys (in a really cute way) but what he really wants is to get everyone's attention :). He will sit at your feet and ask to be picked up. He is a velcro pup who loves to be part of the pack. He follows his foster parents around the house and is never too far!  He is a sweet cuddler who loves his people, and he also enjoys cuddling up with the other dogs in the household. He also really loves to play with the other dogs in his foster home. 

Galway is working on potty and crate-training. He likes to play with any and all toys around the house, including the huge bones that the bigger dogs in the house like to chew. Galway is adorable and very playful! He is absolutely wonderful around people and other dogs. 

We do not know what the puppies from the "Irish Cities Litter" are mixed with. Our best guess is that they are herding breed mixes. These adorable little guys will make great additions to active families that will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart pups who will need leadership, and plenty of activity and mental stimulation. This is true of all of the breeds that we rescue :).
