Foster Homes are Urgently Needed!
Heartland German Shepherd Rescue (HUGS) is an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We are not a shelter. In order to save homeless, neglected, unwanted, sometimes sick or injured dogs or puppies, we need foster homes.
Would you like to help us save German Shepherd dogs, mixes, and other herding breeds, by providing them with a temporary haven while they look for their loving, forever home? Please consider becoming an approved HUGS foster home! Foster homes typically need to be in the Omaha, Lincoln, Council Bluffs or surrounding areas. We ask that foster parents be committed, able to bring their foster dogs to vet appointments and some HUGS events, or that they make transportation arrangements with us.
You provide the home, love, exercise, socialization, and basic manners, to help ready the pup for adoption. You also help us learn more about a dog's personality and behavior in a home setting, by providing us with updates. HUGS provides all necessary vet care for the foster dog, dog food, preventative, support, and handles the adoption process. We require household pets to have a good routine and preventative vet history; that they be up-to-date on Rabies & Distemper vaccinations; flea & tick preventative; Heartworm testing; and on heartworm preventative, preferably all year long, but at least during mosquito season. Dogs 6 months and older must be spayed/neutered. Help us save Lives: Foster a HUGS dog Join the life-saving team today! Submit an application to become a HUGS foster parent. You must be an adult 19 years of age or older to apply. * Please visit the Adoption Information section for additional information about our requirements. Requirements for Fostering or Adopting are the same, as many of our fosters end up adopting at some point!
