German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation.

Marco and siblings (the Summer Resort litter) were the result of an "oops" litter that ended up in a crowded shelter. Mom is a Black GSD and dad is a Black & Tan GSD. When these sweet babies landed at the shelter, they were skinny, and covered up in fleas and scabs. They have now received vet care and they are thriving in their foster homes. 

Marco is the sweetest pup there is! He has already has mastered the GSD head tilt, and every day his ears are standing up a bit more. He is super interested in exploring his new environment and learning how to navigate the house with two big dogs and two cats. He’s doing great with potty-training and goes immediately outside when he is taken out. He loves to play with water in the yard! He wants to be everyone’s friend and loves hanging out with the people and animals in the home. He’s very treat-motivated, super snuggly, and he likes to follow everyone like a little shadow. This cuddly little guy is ready for his forever home!

Like all GSDs, and other herding breeds that we have in rescue, Marco will need training, consistency, boundaries, and lots of activity and socialization, in order to be a well-balanced, well-behaved dog. This sweet boy would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation that he needs. Because of that, Marco's ideal owner will have prior GSD, or other similar breed experience. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills and manners.
