Beef is an adorable 4 nonth-old male Belgian Malinois who was abandoned with a sibling (Ribeye) on the side of the road. Luckily, the 2 babies were picked up by a Good Samaritan who took them to the local shelter before something worse could happen to them. The shelter was very full and asked if we could help, and thanks to a couple of wonderful fosters who opened their homes and hearts to these pups in need, we were able to bring them in rescue. Both pups have been thriving in their wonderful foster homes and are now ready for adoption! Here is an intro written by Beef's foster mom:
Meet Beef — The Sweetest Sous-Chef and Champion Weed Puller. Beef is a 15 & a half week-old Belgian Malinois pup with a heart full of love and eyes that will melt yours in an instant. He’s smart, attentive, and always eager to please. He is already working on his “sit” and taking treats with the gentlest little bites. This curious boy is a professional shadow, faithfully following his foster siblings, Daizy and Griffin, around the house. One of his favorite pastimes? Snatching Daizy’s leash and pretending he’s the one taking her for a walk. It is adorable and hilarious. Beef sleeps through the night like a dream in his kennel and is making steady progress with potty-training. During the day, he’s all about the snuggles and naps (preferably in your arms or by your side). And don’t let his age fool you, Beef is already building quite the resume! He’s an observant little sous-chef, watching patiently and intently from the kitchen floor while you make dinner, just in case a snack heads his way. He’s also an enthusiastic weed puller, helpfully removing unsightly weeds straight from the patio planters with great gusto. Green thumb or not, he’s doing his best! Beef has a special way of looking up at you with those big, soulful eyes, like he’s hanging on your every word. He’s thoughtful, affectionate, and ready for a forever home where he can keep learning, loving, and making life just a little more joyful! If you’re ready for puppy kisses, laughter, and a loyal sidekick for life, Beef is ready too!
Like all Belgian Malinois, GSDs and other herding breeds that we have in rescue, Beef will need training, consistency, boundaries, and lots of activity and socialization, in order to be a well-balanced, well-behaved dog. This sweet boy would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation that he needs. Because of that, Beef's ideal owner will have prior GSD, or other similar breed experience. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills and manners.
Beef's adoption fee is $350, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs. We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped. Why are Sponsorships & Donations so important?
HUGS provides dog food, supplies, necessary vet care (emergency, acute, routine), heartworm and flea/tick preventative to the HUGS foster dogs while they look for their forever homes. This can be quite costly and challenging in many ways. Additionally, some of the dogs that we rescue arrive sick or injured and require hospitalization, expensive surgery or long-term medications or other treatment. This places a huge strain on our vet fund, and can affect our ability to help future dogs.
Sadly, without sufficient funding to transport, vet/treat, feed the dogs that we take in, we could not continue saving them. As a volunteer group that runs solely on donations and adoptions fees, we truly need your support.
