The puppies from the Nebraska litter were surrendered to HUGS so they could be safely rehomed, after their parents (both GSDs) had an unplanned litter prior to being spayed and neutered.
Ashland is an 8.5-week-old German Shepherd puppy with the sweetest soul and the goofiest little personality. This handsome boy is the perfect mix of mellow cuddle bug and curious adventurer. Most of the time you’ll find Ashland happily snoozing, chewing a toy, or following his favorite human around like a tiny shadow. His absolute favorite place in the world is right next to the people he loves! If you’re moving, Ashland is moving too — he takes his job as your loyal sidekick very seriously. He’s a gentle, laid-back boy who loves snuggles. In fact, he loves them so much that he has been known to parkour his way out of his playpen just to be closer to his humans! Determined? Yes. Adorable? Also yes. Ashland does great interacting with other dogs and especially loves playing with his foster brother. He’s also doing wonderfully with crate training and potty training, which is pretty impressive for such a young pup! His personality is something special — Ashland is calm, affectionate, and incredibly sweet, but also confident and curious about the world around him. He’s the kind of puppy who will grow up to be a loyal Velcro dog, happiest when he’s by your side whether you’re relaxing on the couch or heading out on an adventure. If you’re looking for a loving, cuddly, and goofy best friend who will adore you with his whole heart, Ashland might just be your perfect match.
Like all GSDs and other herding breeds that we have in rescue, Ashland will need training, consistency, boundaries, and lots of activity and socialization, in order to be a well-balanced, well-behaved dog. This sweet boy would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation that she needs. Because of that, his ideal owner will have prior GSD, or similar breed experience, and a playful dog buddy. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills and manners.
Ashland's adoption fee is $450, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs. We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped. Why are Sponsorships & Donations so important?
HUGS provides dog food, supplies, necessary vet care (emergency, acute, routine), heartworm and flea/tick preventative to the HUGS foster dogs while they look for their forever homes. This can be quite costly and challenging in many ways. Additionally, some of the dogs that we rescue arrive sick or injured and require hospitalization, expensive surgery or long-term medications or other treatment. This places a huge strain on our vet fund, and can affect our ability to help future dogs.
Sadly, without sufficient funding to transport, vet/treat, feed the dogs that we take in, we could not continue saving them. As a volunteer group that runs solely on donations and adoptions fees, we truly need your support.
